Tourniquet - Where Moth And Rust Destroy [Promo] (2003)

Tourniquet was formed in Los Angeles in 1990. Nineteen albums later, the members of Tourniquet remain committed to creating intense music. Drummer and main songwriter Ted Kirkpatrick’s passion for classical music and technical metal finds its way into many Tourniquet songs, resulting in their music being described as “Beethoven Meets Frankenstein”. As Tourniquet’s music blends elements of many different styles, two things stand out… melody and originality. Tourniquet is known as a “musician’s band” and have appeared in Modern Drummer, Guitar World, and many other musicians magazines.
With worldwide sales of over 350,000 units, over 5,000,000 YouTube views, and fans across the globe, Tourniquet’s presence is unmistakable. Tourniquet has worked with top producers including Bill Metoyer, Jim Faraci, and Neil Kernon. Top musicians have graced Tourniquet albums too - including Marty Friedman, Frank Marino, Pat Travers, Karl Sanders (Nile), Bruce Franklin (Trouble). Due to the classical influence of Ted’s writing - also present on Tourniquet albums are members of the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra.
Their lyrical influences span a wide range - everything from Old Testament narratives to Edgar Allan Poe type horror. Besides sharing their faith, a unique trademark of the band is their ongoing message of animal welfare. Ted says: “How animals - all animals - are treated matters greatly to me. To have a platform to share that through music is a privilege.”
Tourniquet have performed in the US, Canada, Europe, and South America and fans have been known to drive (or fly) long distances just to see the band play.
Tourniquet has been the recipient of numerous awards and accolades, including HM magazine’s Favorite Band of the Decade, several #1 Metal singles, and six Dove Award nominations. They have appeared in countless magazine, newspaper, and online publications. The success of their “acoustic unplugged” shows has further advanced their strong reputation for musical integrity and versatility.

Ted Kirkpatrick:

A founding member of Tourniquet, drummer, songwriter and lyricist. Ted Kirkpatrick’s aggressive, musical, and often unorthodox approach to drumming has been recognized by thousands - critics and fans alike. Ted began playing drums at age 12. By age 14, Ted was playing drums along with the records of many of his early influences, bands like Rush, King Crimson, and ELP. He holds a business degree from the University of Texas, Austin, where he graduated with honors.
Entirely self taught, he began to develop his own unique drumming style through a variety of influences. He is a great admirer of the classical masters and has attended countless classical concerts, and his drumming and songwriting are influenced by the power of Beethoven and Mahler symphonies, the staccato bursts of Scarlatti’s harpsichord sonatas, and the counterpoint of Bach’s fugues, to name a few. His latest solo release (2010) In The Shadow Of The Masters features Ted drumming to classics by Mozart, Beethoven, Rossini, Chopin, Paganini and others.
