Darkthrone - 1988-2013 [compilation] 2xDVD-R 𝔟𝔬𝔬𝔱𝔩𝔢𝔤

 

 The band that would become Darkthrone formed in late 1986 in Kolbotn, a small town south of Oslo. They were a death metal band by the name of Black Death whose members were Gylve Nagell, Ivar Enger and Anders Risberget. Their main inspirations were Autopsy, Venom, Hellhammer, Celtic Frost, Slayer and Nocturnus. In late 1987, the band changed their name to Darkthrone and were joined by Dag Nilsen. Ted Skjellum joined in spring of 1988. During 1988 and 1989, the band independently released four demo tapes: Land of Frost, A New Dimension, Thulcandra, and Cromlech.

They were subsequently signed to the independent record label Peaceville Records with a four-album contract. In 1990, they recorded their first studio album, Soulside Journey. Because of a small recording budget, the band could not afford the kind of studio they wanted but, thanks to the members of Nihilist and Entombed, they were able to record their album at Sunlight Studios. Although mainly death metal in style, there were some elements of black metal present in terms of artwork and songwriting.

Immediately following the release of this album, the band continued writing and recording new material, recording on tape until a full album was ready. These tracks were entirely instrumental but they demonstrated the band's gradual shift towards black metal. In 1996, the finished album Goatlord was released, with vocals added by Fenriz.

Beastcraft - Dawn Of The Serpent [Compilation] (2006)

 

 Beastcraft were formed in Norway, 2003, united by members that has been a part of the scene since the early nineties. The band were created as a rusty audible sword towards the clean and bleak metal sound of the new millennium, focusing heavily upon both the original necro production and its aesthetics, combining the core of the first and second wave of black metal. The band has deliberately been extremely selective both when it comes to doing interviews and playing live, wanting the band to remain in the underground shadows...

Aeternus - Ascension Of Terror (2001)

 

 Aeternus was formed by Ares in 1993 in Bergen, Norway. And with seven full length albums under their belts, Aeternus is one of the pioneers of what the band calls “Dark Metal”, meshing the sounds of Black Metal and Death Metal with superlative guitar playing and occasional haunting, melodic interludes.

Of the original line up, only founder, guitarist and frontman Ares remains. A veteran of the prolific Bergen Music Scene, Ares has played with some of the best bands that inhabit the Black and Extreme Metal genres, including icons such as Immortal and Gorgoroth.

After releasing the Demo “Walk my path” in 1994, Aeternus got signed to View Beyond Records who released their classic “Dark Sorcery” in 1995. Ever since, Aeternus has always delivered critically acclaimed releases, not to mention brutal and solid live shows.

20 years later the highly anticipated seventh album “…And the Seventh his Soul Detesteth” is released, Presenting a new and solid line up with Phobos behind the drums and Specter on guitar. When the album is released, Eld join the band as permanent bass player and the line-up is complete.

Alongside the best of reviews, Aeternus promotes their new album touring Europe with label mates Taake plus a Norwegian headliner tour, plays festivals in Europe and does their first US show ever at the Maryland deathfest.

The band has grown stronger, and better than ever before, and the journey continues.

In their previous incarnation Aeternus have appeared at a big number of festivals, and toured alongside bands such as Deicide, Cannibal Corpse, Mayhem, Behemoth, Emperor, Marduk, 1349, Aura Noir to mention some.

Emperor - Emperor / Wrath Of The Tyrant [comp] (1998) [Reissue] (2005)

 

Emperor is a Norwegian black metal band formed in 1991, regarded as highly influential by critics and emerging black metal bands. The group split up in 2001, but reunited from 2005 to 2007 for a few festival dates and brief US tours, and again reunited in 2013 to 2014. Emperor reformed for the third time in 2016. The group was founded by Ihsahn (guitar/vocal) and Samoth (then, drums).

In their youth, Ihsahn and Samoth met at a rock music seminar. The two young men began playing together under various names; first Dark Device, then Xerasia, then Embryonic. The group soon evolved into the now well-known band Thou Shalt Suffer. Soon, however, Samoth began to write music outside of Thou Shalt Suffer, and together with Ihsahn and a new bass player called Mortiis (later of his own eponymous band Mortiis), Emperor was formed. After a short while together, the band released a demo entitled Wrath of the Tyrant. It quickly gained popularity in the underground and attracted the attention of the then-start-up label Candlelight. Soon afterwards, a record contract was signed, Samoth moved to rhythm guitar, Ihsahn continued the vocal duties and lead guitars, and Faust was recruited as a drummer. Emperor released their debut EP, Emperor, under Candlelight Records. The band then was signed to the infamous first black metal label, Deathlike Silence Productions, and planned to release their next album soon, though the band never managed to release any material while signed to DSP.

In the summer of 1992, a series of events were set in motion by the black metal inner circle. Samoth, along with various other black metallers, set out to burn down old churches in Norway. Also in 1992, Faust lived in Lillehammer, and in the newly constructed Olympic park a man named Magne Andreassen approached him and suggested that they take a walk in the nearby forest. Faust agreed, and, once in the forest, Faust claimed the man began to make strong sexual advances towards him. Faust then stabbed the man to death, kicking him in the head afterward to ensure that he was dead. He was not convicted until two years later. The day after Faust committed the murder, he went with Euronymous of Mayhem and Varg Vikernes of Burzum to burn the Holmenkollen Chapel in Oslo. In the summer of 1993, the band began working on their first full-length album. Emperor ceased wearing corpse paint; they stated that it was becoming a trend and losing its original significance and symbolism. In autumn of that year, the police began to investigate the murder of Euronymous of Mayhem, naming Varg Vikernes as a suspect; this investigation eventually led to the incarceration of Samoth for arson, and of Faust for the murder of Magne Andreassen.

In 1994, Samoth was sentenced to 16 months in prison for burning the Skjold Church in Vindafjord, together with Varg Vikernes. The arson was committed during a pause in the recording of the Burzum EP Aske (‘Ashes’). In 1994, In the Nightside Eclipse was released, and earned Emperor widespread acclaim and a large fanbase.

However, the ''Emperor'' recording has been kept very close to its original sound.
''Wrath of the Tyrant'' has by nature a very ''necro'' sound, and nothing was done
to hide that.
