Metallica - Cliff 'Em All (1987) + One (1989) + A Year and a Half in the Life of Metallica ... Continued (1992)

Metallica were born on October 28, 1981 when drummer Lars Ulrich and guitar player/singer James Hetfield got together via Ulrich’s LA Recycler newspaper ad. Soon, the two had recruited Hetfield’s friend and housemate Ron McGovney to play bass, Dave Mustaine to play lead guitar, and taken the name Metallica after a suggestion from Bay Area metal scene friend Ron Quintana. Their ascent was to be relatively quick, driven by sheer work-rate, effort and a rare musical chemistry. After hitting the opener’s circuit in LA (where they supported the likes of Saxon) they recorded their first ever demo No Life ‘Til Leather. The tape-trading circuit went crazy for it, and after repeatedly well-received shows in the Bay Area, Metallica found themselves relocating there after convincing bassist Cliff Burton to leave his band Trauma and replace McGovney.

East Coast metal merchant Jon Zazula pitched the band on an album deal with his indie label Megaforce Records and 1983 found them traveling to New York in a stolen U-Haul to record their first album. Shortly after arriving in New York in April 1983, Mustaine was replaced by Exodus shredder Kirk Hammett and the boys hit the studio for the first time. The resulting debut album, Kill ‘Em All, exploded onto the scene later that year brandishing punk-encrusted, crunchy metal riffery, the likes of “The Four Horsemen,” “Whiplash” and “Seek and Destroy” that were hailed as instant classics. The stellar reception in the metal community allowed them to quickly make their second album Ride The Lightning with producer Flemming Rassmussen in Copenhagen at Sweet Silence Studios during the summer of 1984. With their writing chemistry maturing at an alarming rate of knots, classic compositions such as “For Whom The Bell Tolls” and “Fade To Black” sat proudly with the aggression of “Fight Fire With Fire” and “Creeping Death.” Q Prime Management and Elektra Records both moved quickly to take the band on by the Fall of ’84, and with the road getting busier and more international, the bands’ stature rapidly grew.

In late 1985, the Rassmussen/Sweet Silence combination provided the underpinning for Master Of Puppets, the band’s third album, which was mixed in LA with Michael Wagener and released in March 1986. “Battery,” the title track and epic instrumental “Orion” were among the astounding compositions, and having secured a support slot with Ozzy Osbourne, Master of Puppets hit the top 30 album charts and expanded their fan base beyond comprehension. It was some ascent. Metallica appeared unstoppable. But a heinous challenge was to be thrown at them when on September 27, 1986, they suffered a tragedy beyond words. On tour in Sweden, during an overnight drive the bands' tour bus skidded out of control and flipped, killing Cliff Burton. His influence on the musical growth of the band had been enormous, combining the DIY philosophies of jamming and experimenting with an acute knowledge of musical theory.

Infrahumano + Holycide + Cancer + Misery Index ┼ live at Kanekas, Cangas do Morrazo (Esp) 26.07.2024

Infrahumano was born in 2014 in Vigo, Spain, with Fabio Angelli (guitars), Damián Álvarez (drums) and Maury (bass and vocals).
In the year 2017 they recorded their first demo "Thousand Eyes", a little later in the same year Alex Durán joined the band remaining the current and definitive formation of Infrahumano.
Then in 2019 they recorded their debut album "Echoes of Decay".

The origins of Holycide can be found back in 2004 before the new wave of Thrash Metal exploded massively when Dave Rotten (AVULSED) wanted to start up a Thrash Metal project for what he joined Vicente from GOLGOTHA on guitars. The intention, from the very beginning, was to create a very aggressive kind of Thrash, exempt of commercial touches and focusing on the intense side of this kind of music.

However, due to the lack of commitment of Vicente, years were passing on and nothing really came out of it until in 2009 a replacement for Vicente was found in Ricardo Moreno, a friend who was live session guitarist for AVULSED during some shows and a full European tour during that year. Ricardo proved to be a good choice and everything went well, even two demo songs were written and recorded in 2010, but from one day to another, Ricardo suddenly decided to quit after summer of the same year because he wanted to concentrate on a new solo project that needed all his time and dedication.

So again, Holycide was on hibernation process until in spring 2012, a new guitarist called Miguel Bárez joined the project. Miguel was also live session guitarist for AVULSED, but at the time he was still running his main band INNTRANCE. Songs were being slowly written until in summer 2013, Miguel asked bass player Daniel Fernández to join the project. Dani was long time friend of Miguel, who played in INNTRANCE some years before ('06-'10) as well as in DARK MOOR ('04-'08 & actually) and was currently playing in VIOLENT EVE although he also left that band a couple of months later due to personal reasons.

The incorporation of Dani was what definitely gave fresh motivation to Holycide and he helped to finalize the three songs already written plus two new ones. A total of 5 songs that were destined to become the first demo of the band. The intention was always to keep this as a project band using programmed drumming so the 5 songs were roughly recorded like this during autumn 2013, adding vocals to two of them in December of the same year.

Already in January 2014 we did our first rehearsal as a trio and it went really good, but some weeks later, Miguel suggested the idea of adding two new members into Holycide and making it a full band with Jorge Utrera (drums) and Salva Esteban (guitar), so in March, the very first official rehearsal of Holycide took place!! Incredible!! It took 10 years to achieve this point, something we never really wanted to go beyond than a simple project to have fun playing Thrash, now was a full band!!

So now the perspective of Holycide changed drastically and we decided to keep the two recorded songs with vocals, as the first band's demo releasing it only on cassette format just for ourselves (only 5 copies made, haha!) and then re-recording all 5 songs with the full line-up for an EP. This EP in form of a 6-song mini CD & cassette entitled "Toxic Mutation", was recorded during the second half of 2014 and release through Xtreem Music in February 2015.

Between 2015 and first half of 2016, Holycide played some local shows and wrote 9 new songs and a cover of DÉTENTE for their debut full length album "Annihilate… Then Ask!" that was finally recorded during summer 2016 and released on CD, 12"LP and Cassette formats through Xtreem Music in February 2017.

Holycide was busy playing across Spain (and one show in Italy) during 2017-2019 presenting their new album, sharing stage with bands like FLOTSAM AND JETSAM, ONSLAUGHT, D.R.I., HELSTAR, EXUMER, TRALLERY, ASOMVEL, NO RETURN, GOD DETHRONED, ALKOHOLIZER and many others. At the same time, a new album was being writing and between April-July 2019, HOLYCIDE entered again Cadillac Blood Studios to record their 2nd full length album "Fist to Face" to be released in February 14th, 2020 through Xtreem Music (CD/12"LP/Cassette - World), MDD Rec. (CD - G/A/S) and Spiritual Beast (CD - Japan). Since the album came out coinciding with the start of the covid-19, "Fist to Face" has not been able to be presented live and it is in 2022 when Holycide intends to "relaunch" said work.

In August 2022, the first line-up change in Holycide takes place with the departure of Dani Fernández for family reasons, and in his place Vicente J. Payá (UNBOUNDED TERROR, GOLGOTHA, DECRAPTED, BIS NTE, etc…) enters, who from in fact, together with Dave Rotten, both formed Holycide back in 2004, with which the circle is closed, and everything stays at home!! This will also mean a new stage in the band, since Dani was the main composer, and now this task will be divided between the two guitarists Miguel Bárez and Salva Esteban, as well as Vicente J. Payá, who will contribute new ideas for the composition of the 3rd album that will take place during the first half of 2023
.

Vocalist John Walker, bassist Ian Buchanan, and drummer Carl Stokes formed Cancer in Ironbridge, Shropshire, in 1988  and broke up twice (in 1996 and 2006). The band reformed once again in 2013.

They were also planning to make a number of festival appearances, where they would only play songs from their first three albums.

On 22 September 2015, Cancer revealed that they have been working on new material. In July 2018, they signed to Peaceville Records and would release their new album, tentatively titled Shadow Gripped, late in the year. In August 2018, Shadow Gripped was confirmed as the title of the band's next album, which was released on 2 November 2018. Misery Index began as a studio project in 2001, when vocalist and bassist Jason Netherton (ex-DYING FETUS) joined together with guitarist / vocalist Mike Harrison and drummer Kevin Talley (ex-DYING FETUS) to record their debut EP “Overthrow”. This five-song death/grind attack received considerable praise in underground circles, shifting Misery Index into a full time project with the addition of Sparky Voyles (ex-DYING FETUS) on guitar.

In 2002, Mike Harrison and Kevin Talley left the band to focus on other projects and the latter was replaced by Matt Byers, who took up drum duties for their first US tour that summer in support of KATAKLYSM. In 2003, Misery Index released their first full-length “Retaliate”, to exceptional reviews and numerous tours in Europe and North America supporting bands such as DYING FETUS, AMON AMARTH, DEICIDE, and NILE. In 2004 a video for “The Great Depression” was released, complimenting their first live DVD, which featured a full set recorded in Athens, Greece. Later in 2004, Adam Jarvis (also currently of PIG DESTROYER and SCOUR) took over on drums, just in time for Misery Index to hit such European festivals as Wacken Open Air, Brutal Assault, and Party.San Open Air, followed with more touring alongside bands such as BEHEMOTH, NAPALM DEATH, SUFFOCATION, ROTTEN SOUND, and MAGRUDERGRIND. In 2005, guitarist and vocalist Mark Kloeppel (ex-CAST THE STONE) joined Jason, Adam and Sparky, solidifying the line-up for the next five years.   [biography]
