Mercyful Fate is a heavy metal band from Copenhagen, Denmark. The band was formed by vocalist King Diamond and guitarist Hank Shermann in 1981. The original MF line-up shared members with another Copenhagen band, Danger Zone, whom Diamond and Shermann were helping out. Influenced by progressive rock and hard rock, and with lyrics dealing with Satan and the occult, Mercyful Fate were part of the first wave of black metal in the early to mid-1980s. Many of the bands from this movement went on to influence later black metal musicians in the 1990s, particularly in Norway. Mercyful Fate are widely considered one of the originators of the black metal sub-genre. By 1982, the "classic" Mercyful Fate line up of Diamond, Shermann, guitarist Michael Denner (ex-Brats and Danger Zone), bassist Timi "Grabber" Hansen (Danger Zone), and drummer Kim Ruzz was in place. Over the next couple years, the band would release an EP and 2 LPs that would cement their reputation as one the most influential metal bands of the early 1980s. King Diamond's blasphemous lyrics and theatrical stage presence would have many label the band as part of the 1st wave of black metal, although musically the band was closer to the style of Judas Priest or Iron Maiden. The group split in 1985, as Shermann decided he wanted to pursue a more commercial direction. King Diamond launched a solo career, taking Denner and Hansen with him, while Kim Ruzz disappeared into the regular world.

The band's legend continued to grow after their split. In 1993, the classic line up, minus Kim Ruzz, reformed for a new album, "In The Shadows". Hansen dropped out after that release but the group continued on throughout the 1990s. At the same time, King Diamond kept his own solo career going. Michael Denner left the band after 1996's "Into The Unknown" and Diamond and Sherman continued on with new players. 1999's "9" is, to date, the band's last full-length release. King Diamond has stated that MF has not split up but the band is on hold for the foreseeable future. In 2009, Diamond, Shermann, Denner, Hansen, and drummer Bjarne Holm (who has played with the group since 1994) reunited to re-record the songs "Evil" and "Curse Of The Pharoah" for the "Guitar Hero: Metallica" video game.

In 2019, the group announced they would be playing a series of live dates. The line up would include Diamond, Sherman, Wead, Holm, and bassist Joey Vera (filling in for Timi Hansen, who was battling cancer). Timi Hansen lost his battle with cancer on November 4th, 2019.

Dark Funeral - Attera Orbis Terrarum - Part II (2008)

1993 was the year it all began, Lord Ahriman and Blackmoon [1993-1996] founded we now know as Dark Funeral. In January 1994 self-titled and self-financed debut mini album were recorded at Dan Swanös Uni-Sound Studio. It was released upon the un-expecting masses on May 4th the same year. The band quickly established themselves as a band to watch. Since then a lot of things has happened. The line-up has changed, several amazing albums has been released and Dark Funeral has toured no less than 45 different countries with acts as Dimmu Borgir, Cannibal Corpse, Deicide, Immortal and many more.

The album "Diabolis Interium" was nominated as best metal album at P3 Guld awards and in Oct 2002 the band played Singapore as the first foreign band in ten years (Metallica played there in the early 90s).

Their  live album "De Profundis Clamavi ad te Domine" was released in Europe by Regain Records and licensed to several other countries. On January 20th 2005, Dark Funeral signed a new record deal with Regain Records and in late May the band entered Dug Out Studios together with producer Daniel Bergstrand (Meshuggah, In Flames, Strapping Young Lad, Behemoth a.s.o.) and c/o producer Örjan Örnkloo (Misery Loves CO) to begin the work and recording of their new, long awaited Satanic Symphony. The band finally completed their recording session on July 15th, 2005. On Aug 8th, the band returned to Dug Out Studios to lay down the final vocal parts and do the final mixing of the album. Finally, on August the 18th, 2005 Dark Funeral's new Masterpiece "Attera Totus Sanctus" was completed. It was released on October 24th, 2005. Upon the release the album climbed straight up on the Swedish Metal chart as NR #3.

After touring the world in support of their latest “Attera Totus Sanctus” album , they finally released their first ever DVD (2-disc´s)"Attera Orbis Terrarum-part 1 on October 15th". The DVD landed as Nr 5 on the Swedish Music DVD chart. This is the first DVD in a series of two which the band planned to release from their world touring for Attera Totus Sanctus.

Dark Funeral begin 2008 by announcing a release date for their second DVD set, "Attera Orbis Terrarum - Part 2". The 2-disc DVD was released on October 20 through Regain Records. This is the second in a series of two DVDs featuring material that was recorded during the band's worldwide touring for "Attera Totus Sanctus.". While Part 1 focuses on European shows, part two focuses on South American shows, where the band has a fanatical following.

Inquisition - Anxious Death / Forever Under [Compilation] (2006)

In 1988, Dagon formed the thrash metal band Guillotina in Cali, Colombia. The band possessed a thrash metal sound on its earliest recordings. The band changed their name to Inquisition in 1989 and released their debut on vinyl 12"EP "Anxious Death" playing the ancient sound of the Thrash Metal in the old Sodom/Kreator vein; the musical style was a bit different but the ideology has been always the same: Total Darkness and Philosophies of Wisdom.

In 1993 the second production was released on full-length tape format which was named "Forever Under", also in the path of violent Thrash Metal Music and in the old Dark Angel/Kreator vein. The band continued with their thrash sound until about 1994, when they evolved into a black metal band.

In 1996 Dagon left Colombia for the US and met Incubus who joined on drums.

Dismember - Reborn In Blasphemy [promo] (1990)

The band formed in Stockholm in 1988 as a trio of vocalist/bassist Robert Senneback, guitarist David Blomqvist and drummer Fred Estby. This initial line-up only maintained itself for just over a year but did release two demos in the shape of 'Dismembered' and 'Last Blasphemies'. The original Dismember folded in late 1989 with Estby joining forces with Carnage and Blomqvist opting for Entombed. However, shortly before recording of the debut Carnage album Blomqvist jumped ship from his new act to join the band.

Carnage dissolved when guitarist Mike Amott quit to British extreme Metal act Carcass leaving Estby, Blomqvist and vocalist Matti Karki to resurrect Dismember. Still a trio, this new line-up released the Tomas Skogsberg produced 'Reborn In Blasphemy' demo before inviting Senneback, then a member of Unleashed, to resume his position in the band. Dismember also augmented their sound with the addition of ex-Carbonised bassist Richard Cabeza. Having signed to Germany's Nuclear Blast label, the first hard product to arrive was the inclusion of two of the latest demo tracks on the 'Death Is Just The Beginning' compilation album.
The band began recording in earnest in 1991 and released their debut album Like an Ever Flowing Stream that year. The album is today heralded as a milestone for the burgeoning Swedish death metal scene and established the band's fanbase, which was further bolstered by the controversy surrounding one song in particular, "Skin Her Alive". The song was confiscated by British and Australian customs for being 'indecent and obscene' (hence the title of their 1993 album). Her Majesty's customs had objected to song titles and lyrics such as 'Skin Her Alive' and 'Brutal Orgy Of Flesh'. The subsequent court case shot Dismember's name to the forefront of the current wave of Death metal acts.

The band toured Europe opening for Morbid Angel in June 1991 but these dates were curtailed due to disagreements between the two acts. Further live shows included Dismember's appearance at the Rock Hard festivals alongside Death, Pestilence and Napalm Death.

In 1992, Dismember released the Pieces EP, which saw more live shows in Europe, touring in conjunction with Obituary and Napalm Death and the following year continued with second full-length Indecent & Obscene which featured their song "Dreaming in Red"; the "Dreaming in Red" videoclip was shown in MTV's Headbangers Ball.

Like many of the other Scandinavian death metal bands, Dismember began softening their sound in the mid-1990s, with 1995's Massive Killing Capacity having more melodic approaches, which had a good public response. Nevertheless, they attempted a return to style with 1997's Death Metal, which ultimately became a sales disappointment.

Darkthrone - Return To Ultima Thule [bootleg] (2001)

In the beginning were a death metal band under the name Black Death formed in late 1986, whose members were Gylve Nagell (Fenriz), Ivar Enger (Zephyrous)  and Anders Risberget. The band changed their name to Darkthrone in late 1987 and were joined by Dag Nilsen. In the spring of 1988, Ted Skjellum (Nocturno Culto) joined the band on guitar and vocals. Based in the Oslo suburb of Kolbotn, the band recorded four demo tapes during 1988 and 1989, (Land of Frost, A New Dimension, Thulcandra, and Cromlech) and was eventually signed by England's Peaceville Records, for whom they recorded their 1991 debut, Soulside Journey. This contained technical death metal in a similar vein to then dominant Swedish groups like Entombed, Edge of Sanity, and Tiamat, and was severely at odds with the small, but dedicated heavy metal community coalescing around Oslo's infamous Helvete record store. It was at this nondescript location, operated by Mayhem guitarist Euronymous, that the seeds were sowed for the so-called "Inner Circle" of Norwegian black metal, whose subsequent activities (involving numerous counts of arson, suicide, and the murder of Euronymous himself at the hands of Burzum's Varg Vikernes) inadvertently drew more international attention than the inaccessible music itself ever could. It was also at Helvete that the members of Darkthrone fell under black metal's irresistibly evil spell, and, no doubt influenced by Mayhem's primal racket, not to mention first generation black metal bands like England's Venom, Switzerland's Hellhammer, Sweden's Bathory, and Brazil's Sarcófago, they began applying corpse makeup and turned their backs on death metal.

In August 1991, they recorded their second album, which was released at the beginning of 1992 and titled A Blaze in the Northern Sky. The album contained Darkthrone's first black metal recordings, and Peaceville Records was originally skeptical about releasing it due to Darkthrone's extreme diversion from their original death metal style. After the album was recorded, bassist Dag Nilsen left the band, as he didn't want to play black metal, and is merely credited as "session bass" with no picture on the album.

Obituary - Live Xecution - Party.San 2008 (2009)

Obituary is an American death metal band formed in 1984 in Tampa, Florida under the name Executioner, then changed the name’s spelling to Xecutioner, and later changed their name to Obituary in 1988. The band comprises vocalist John Tardy, drummer Donald Tardy, guitarist Trevor Peres and bassist Terry Butler. The band is a fundamental act in the development of death metal music and one of the most successful death metal bands in the world.

Obituary is one of the pioneering bands of the death metal genre. Founded as Executioner in Seffner, Florida during 1984. They soon dropped the «E» from their name because of another band of the same name, becoming Xecutioner. At the time the band was composed of John Tardy (vocals), Allen West (lead guitar), JP Chartier (guitar), Jerome Grable (bass) & Donald Tardy (drums). The band released demos in 1985, 1986, and 1987, the 1985 demo as Executioner and the 1986 and 1987 demos as Xecutioner. They made their vinyl debut in 1987 with two tracks («Find The Arise» & «Like The Dead») on the Raging Death compilation. Not long after its release, Grable was replaced with bassist Daniel Tucker. Shortly before the release of its first album the following year, Slowly We Rot, they changed their name to Obituary. The band still remains an influential piece of the Florida death metal movement that arose in the late 1980s.

After 1997’s Back from the Dead album, the band had grown tired of touring, which led to the band disbanding. During the hiatus, Donald Tardy played in Andrew W.K.’s touring band (during W.K.’s appearance on Saturday Night Live Tardy wore an Obituary shirt). Allen West focused on his two projects, Lowbrow and Six Feet Under while not playing in Obituary. Trevor Peres formed Catastrophic in 2001, which released one album, The Cleansing, in that same year. Obituary reformed in 2003 and Catastrophic continued to exist alongside the reformed Obituary. A reunion album, Frozen in Time, was released in 2005. The band’s first live DVD, Frozen Alive, was released in January 2007.

Beastcraft ‎- Dawn Of The Serpent-Trinitatis Infernalis - In Memoriam Of Alastor Nefas [2012]

Beastcraft were formed in Norway, 2003, united by members that has been a part of the scene since the early nineties. The band were created as a rusty audible sword towards the clean and bleak metal sound of the new millennium, focusing heavily upon both the original necro production and its aesthetics, combining the core of the first and second wave of black metal.

The band has deliberately been extremely selective both when it comes to doing interviews and playing live, wanting the band to remain in the underground shadows. In 2012 Beastcraft preform their second black metal mass as a tribute to Nefas, at Bunker 2012 Festival in Oslo on friday the 24th of August, together with a.o. Carpathian Forest. A box-set of the demos was released on Black Saw Rec. in December, containing 3 7″s and poster (Dawn of the Serpent – Trinitatis Infernalis – In Memoriam of Alastor Nefas). After the untimely death of Nefas in May, at the age of only 34 in 2012, Beastcraft ended all new recordings with the fifth and final album, The Infernal Gospels of Primitive Devil Worship, in 2016.

Cattle Decapitation - To Serve Man (2002)

Cattle Decapitation formed in San Diego in 1996. Cattle Decapitation's songs protest the mistreatment and consumption of animals, the abuse of the environment and touch subjects such as misanthropy and genocide of the human race.

The lineup originally featured David Astor on bass and Gabe Serbian on drums (both were then also members of the Locust) as well as an unknown guitarist/vocalist, who allegedly vanished without the other members knowing anything about his whereabouts. Seeking a replacement on vocals, the group turned to Travis Ryan, who had actually been playing drums for another San Diego metal band, Strangulation, in addition to serving as vocalist in a gore metal group called Anal Flatulence. With Ryan on board, Astor moved from bass to drums, and Serbian moved from drums to guitar. This lineup quickly released two albums, the Human Jerky LP (on the Nevada label Satan's Pimp) and the Homovore CD/LP.

Next, they added a bassist, Troy Oftedal, with whom they recorded their third full-length, To Serve Man, released in the fall of 2002 on Metal Blade, a move that would expose them to a more death metal-oriented audience (as opposed to the primarily hardcore/grindcore one that they had been playing to before). To Serve Man saw controversy in Germany, where distribution company SPV refused to handle the album due to its graphic cover. Also in 2002, the band added a second guitarist, Josh Elmore (formerly of 7000 Dying Rats), who eventually took over as their sole guitarist after Serbian left in order to devote himself more fully to the the Locust. Serbian plays drums in the Locust, replacing Astor, who ironically had left the Locust so that he could more fully devote himself to Cattle Decapitation. Astor left after To Serve Man and was replaced by Creation Is Crucifixion drummer Michael Laughlin for the 2004 release Humanure.
