Slayer - Reign In Blood (1986) [Remastered] (2006)

Originally released in 7 October 1986.

CBS, who distributed Def Jam albums, had refused to handle Reign In Blood despite the fact that it was already paid for. Their issues were down to two things: the cover and the song "Angel Of Death" (they demanded that Slayer remove the song).
Columbia refused to release it because of "Angel of Death" and Geffen released it but without their logo present.

It is considered one of the most influential thrash metal albums of all time, and was certified gold (500,000+ sales) by the RIAA on November 20, 1992 (six years after its release).
It reached #94 on the Billboard 200 and produced four singles: "Raining Blood", "Angel Of Death", "Necrophobic" and "Criminally Insane".

“There was constant competition between all of those bands,” says Brian Slagel, countering Kerry’s assertion. “Who was the fastest band? They took that very seriously, and that’s one thing that led to the speed of Reign In Blood.”

“Kerry and Jeff said that they didn’t want to do a slow record - they wanted to do something fast. We were young. We were hungry. And we wanted to be faster than everybody else.”

Araya about "Angel Of Death": "That scream took two takes..."

The producer (Rick) told them that they didn’t need any reverb on the guitars or vocals. The result was a sound that was as dry as a bone and heavy as granite; it instantly set Slayer apart from the other kids on the thrash metal block. “It’s very close to being a live album, very well recorded in a studio. Slayer didn’t sound like anyone else, that’s why the album sounds different than other metal albums. They really were creating their own genre.”

Emperor - Emperor / Wrath Of The Tyrant [comp] (1998) [Reissue] (2005)

Emperor is a Norwegian black metal band formed in 1991, regarded as highly influential by critics and emerging black metal bands. The group split up in 2001, but reunited from 2005 to 2007 for a few festival dates and brief US tours, and again reunited in 2013 to 2014. Emperor reformed for the third time in 2016. The group was founded by Ihsahn (guitar/vocal) and Samoth (then, drums).

In their youth, Ihsahn and Samoth met at a rock music seminar. The two young men began playing together under various names; first Dark Device, then Xerasia, then Embryonic. The group soon evolved into the now well-known band Thou Shalt Suffer. Soon, however, Samoth began to write music outside of Thou Shalt Suffer, and together with Ihsahn and a new bass player called Mortiis (later of his own eponymous band Mortiis), Emperor was formed. After a short while together, the band released a demo entitled Wrath of the Tyrant. It quickly gained popularity in the underground and attracted the attention of the then-start-up label Candlelight. Soon afterwards, a record contract was signed, Samoth moved to rhythm guitar, Ihsahn continued the vocal duties and lead guitars, and Faust was recruited as a drummer.
Emperor released their debut EP, Emperor, under Candlelight Records. The band then was signed to the infamous first black metal label, Deathlike Silence Productions, and planned to release their next album soon, though the band never managed to release any material while signed to DSP.

In the summer of 1992, a series of events were set in motion by the black metal inner circle. Samoth, along with various other black metallers, set out to burn down old churches in Norway. Also in 1992, Faust lived in Lillehammer, and in the newly constructed Olympic park a man named Magne Andreassen approached him and suggested that they take a walk in the nearby forest. Faust agreed, and, once in the forest, Faust claimed the man began to make strong sexual advances towards him. Faust then stabbed the man to death, kicking him in the head afterward to ensure that he was dead. He was not convicted until two years later. The day after Faust committed the murder, he went with Euronymous of Mayhem and Varg Vikernes of Burzum to burn the Holmenkollen Chapel in Oslo. In the summer of 1993, the band began working on their first full-length album.
Emperor ceased wearing corpse paint; they stated that it was becoming a trend and losing its original significance and symbolism. In autumn of that year, the police began to investigate the murder of Euronymous of Mayhem, naming Varg Vikernes as a suspect; this investigation eventually led to the incarceration of Samoth for arson, and of Faust for the murder of Magne Andreassen.

In 1994, Samoth was sentenced to 16 months in prison for burning the Skjold Church in Vindafjord, together with Varg Vikernes. The arson was committed during a pause in the recording of the Burzum EP Aske (‘Ashes’). In 1994, In the Nightside Eclipse was released, and earned
Emperor widespread acclaim and a large fanbase.

Defleshed - Abrah Kadavrah / Ma Belle Scalpelle [comp] (2000) [digipak]

From the mid-90s to 2005, Sweden's Defleshed churned out a white hot blend of thrash, death metal, and grindcore, marking themselves as one of the most vital bands in all three of those genres. Having run out of inspiration and wanting to try other things they called it a day the same year they released their fifth album Reclaim The Beat, and ever since fans have hollered for their reunion. In 2021 they got what they were asking for when the band's core lineup - guitarist Lars Löfven, drummer Matte Modin and bassist/vocalist Gustaf Jorde - got back together. "We just wanted to record a couple of songs to include in a vinyl box set," explains Jorde. "The songs turned out good and the process was satisfying so we decided to have a go on a full-length." The result is the corrosive Grind Over Matter, 11 blistering songs packed into 34 minutes, not only proving that the band still have what it takes but that they are playing at the absolute top of their game.

With the vinyl box set not happening, the two songs the band initially recorded were released as the Fleshless And Wild single. Says Jorde, "At that time we had made up our minds on a continuation, so that release was kind of a gift to everyone who has encouraged us to get back together through all these years." None of the members took any convincing to reform or to push ahead with the full-length, starting to seriously write in Autumn 2021, and there was no masterplan guiding them. "We just wanted to see what we sounded like today, with new perspectives on things. We knew it had to be fast and furious yet diverse." The result is an album "filled to its maximum with power and energy", this made clear by opener "Bent Out Of Shape", which is perhaps the greatest start to any of their records. They do not take it easy on the listener from there on, with the likes of the thrashy "Dear Devil" and groove-laden "Unburdened By Genius" taking very different tactics in the damage they wreak, the band making a point of not repeating themselves while staying true to that classic
Defleshed sound.

The title an obvious play on the term 'Mind Over Matter', Jorde is coming from a different place lyrically than fans are used to. "This time around traditional murder, war, and gore lyrics didn't come to me. So I wrote from a viewing perspective, beholding the world and man's influence on the same." This manifests itself in a variety of ways, "Bent Out Of Shape" standing as "an illustration of how everything is standardized and mainstreamed to enable mass production and economic growth, leaving nothing left to be organic, wild and vivid", while "One Grave To Fit Them All" is "a tale of a man who hates and kills everyone who differs from himself, resulting in sitting alone on the throne with no one left to hate." Then there is "Dear Devil", which is about "a wish - and demand - list written as a letter to The Underworld by a narcissist who arrogantly enough believes such a letter will be respected," Jorde always writing insightfully, giving the listener something to think about.

The album was tracked at Rorysound Studios, Uppsala, Sweden, with Lawrence Mackrory, with two weeks devoted to drums, another two for guitar and bass and two three-day sessions for vocals. "It was pretty straightforward, the hardest part was to not get carried away by impulsive ideas too much, but stay put to the original plan," says Jorde. Additional vocals on "Heavy Haul" and closer "Last Nail In The Coffin" come courtesy of the band F.K.Ü, who are also Uppsala natives, adding an extra dimension to the songs, the rest of the album strictly the work of the three band members.

Repulsive Assault Compilation Vol. 2 (1997) [Promo]

Murder Corporation

Formed in 1995 as a side project of the band Deranged.  The band signed a three-album deal with the American label Necropolis Records just to "break up" in June of 2002. The members almost immediately started a new band called Killaman with Rune from Reclusion on vocals.

 Haemorrhage

Influenced by the rising grind/death metal scene of the late 80s, Luisma and Jose had the idea of forming a band in 1990 that would eventually become Haemorrhage.

Severance

The band formed in May of 1989 under the name Rest in Pain. One of their gigs under that name (possibly the first) took place early the following month, with Devastation, Dead Horse, and Cranial Torment. In January '90 they changed their moniker to Severance, and released a 3-song rehearsal demo. The later part of 1991 marked the release of their five-song demo Afterbirth of Infamy. After several months of promoting this release, Drowned Productions, later known as Repulse Records, approached the band to do a 7" single in 1992. This two-song vinyl release titled Abysmal Ascent gained the band worldwide recognition.

For the next 4 years the band underwent several line-up changes that altered their ability to progress any further. During these four years of struggling to keep the band alive, they were busy doing interviews with magazines, appearing on radio programs in over ten different countries, and answering hundreds of letters from supporters. The band continued to write music and rehearse even though a solid line-up had yet to be established.

 Unnatural

Unnatural is considered one of the best Death Metal bands in Spain. Its history dates back to the band Detestor in 1990, where Miguel, Sonia and Franco were already members, who decided to start a new musical phase in 1992 with the name Unnatural, thus beginning their first recordings, such as the promos released in 1992 and 1993, which aroused the interest of Javier Abreu's Man Records to embark on the mythical shared “Avowals” from 1994 with Dismal and Absorbed. Unnatural began to arouse the interest of both national and international media since this band stood out with that twisted Death Metal in a line purely to Gorguts and Immolation (early times), another 95 promo arrived and the renowned "False Light Garden" from 1996 where they already spoke wonders of them, the icing on the cake came in 1997 with the acclaimed EP "Throne of Angue". Unnatural found themselves among the national elite and suddenly the band broke up in 1998 without any explanation. In 2004 Burning Dogma released a compilation with their best material on the CD ''Life''.

Anasarca

Death metal from Germany since 1995. Released three albums between 1998 and 2004. The releases convinced the listener by being brutal and technical with a well-laboured songwriting. On "Moribund" they added some melodies, making this album one of the best German Death Metal releases in the new millennium. Another fact making this band something special were the lyrics of the last two outputs. They were written by death row inmates ("Moribund") or by terminally ill people ("Dying").

Defiled

Guitarist and remaining founding member Yusuke Sumita brings Defiled to life in union with vocalist Hideki Fujimoto, Norihisa Fukuda on bass and drummer Naoki Akamatsu as early as 1992. The Japanese derive part of their inspiration from early Death Metal and the famous Florida style as pioneered by Death and Morbid Angel in particular. What makes Defiled's sound unique are the influences coming from their surroundings. Hailing from Tokyo the band draws from the brutality and cyber tech atmosphere of this madly sprawling metropolis.

Although have only two demos and their EP Defeat of Sanity” released they quickly acquire a massive reputation for their hart hitting and devastating live shows. As a result Defiled receive an opening slot for Cannibal Corpse in their homeland in 1996 and two years later they are called to the US to tour with Incantation. Also in 1998 the band joins Morbid Angel, Testament, Vader and Arch Enemy in Japan. With these and other international tours Defiled gain a large fan base and worldwide publicity.

When their long anticipated first album “Erupted Wrath” is finally unleashed in the year 1999 it hits the scene with a big impact. Mixed by genre legend Jim Morris in Tampa, Florida the debut receives critical acclaim and leads to an invitation to the prestigious Milwaukee Metalfest, which makes Defiled the first Japanese band to have this honour. This example is followed by the New Jersey Metal Meltdown, which they play for four consecutive years and in the year 2000 the band tours Europe with Dementor. Meanwhile Yuichi Ishiguro has replaced Naoki Akamatsu on drums.

The follow up “Ugliness Revealed” (2001) is once more mixed at Morrisound Recordings and broadens the international success of Defiled. The Japanese are now aiming towards a more avant-garde sound and especially this album is known for intelligent chaos on a high quality level. More successful tours and shows around the globe are being performed by this restless group.

Yet it is their third album “Divination” mixed again by Jim Morris, which breaks new ground for Defiled. Their first release on Season of Mist sees the band touring through 19 European countries with dark Norwegian legends Mayhem to great success in 2004 among other journeys. The Japanese deliver a compact and cunning brutal Death Metal attack from the East, but due to major changes in the line-up that leave guitarist Yusuke Sumita looking for new members all activities are slowed for a while. Singer Hideki Fujimoto is replaced on the microphone by Kenji Sato, while Norihisa Fukuda hands over his bass duties to Haruhisa Takahata. The drum stool proves to be a hot seat for some years to come until Takahiro Okada joins in 2009.

Despite the changes Defiled continue to play headline tour throughout the next years. In 2007 the band hits Australia for the first time and also plays a Korean tour, which is exciting news considering that Japanese culture was officially banned in that country. An Asian tour follows in 2008 with Taiwan, Philippines, Singapore, Vietnam, Thailand, China, Hongkong, Macau and Japan receiving a visit. In 2010 Defiled return to Korea, travel through the US and Mexico with Infinitum Obscure and embark on their second Asian tour including Indonesia, Singapore and Malaysia, before playing more shows in Japan.

During 2010 the Japanese also record their fourth album “In Crisis”. The Japanese are ready to enter a new dimension and for the first time work with legendary engineer Bill Metoyer, who is known for his collaboration with Slayer, Sacred Reich and Sadus among many others. Defiled were aiming for something special. “We wanted to get away from those conservative well polished crystal clear sounds”, states Yusuke. “Instead we opted for more organic vibration and sound pressure that you can find in Stoner Rock.” The artwork is provided by Wes Benscoter, whose bizarre airbrush paintings have been employed as cover artwork by Slayer, Mortician, Sinister and Black Sabbath and other Metal icons.

Christ Denied

Christ Denied exists since 1994 and stands for 90's Brutal Death, no modern slam or core stuff. Their live shows are minimalistic, dark red atmosphere. No long hairs, no jumping, no smiles, no words, no trendy multicoloured merchandise... Just heavy, brutal and crushing riffs, hellish blasts and insane multi-gutturals. They are not your typical Brutal Death band.

Infamy

US Death Metal/Grindcore band formed in 1995. The original Infamy line-up consisted of Memo and James from Entity, Joshua / Jagger from Brainstorm and Eddie from Preacher. ''Gates of Purgatory'' demo were their last recording in 2005.

Corpus Mortale

Corpus Mortale from Denmark plays raw, aggressive death metal.
After 10 years in the underground, the band finally released their debut album in November 2003. "With Lewd Demeanor" was released on the Dutch label Neurotic Records. The album was supported by a 20-date European tour together with fellow Danes Konkhra & Illnath. In advance of the second album, Greek underground label Nuclear Winter Records released the EP "Seize the Moment of Murder" on 7" vinyl in late 2006. A year later, "A New Species of Deviant" was released (November 2007 in North America on Willowtip Records and February 2008 in Europe on Neurotic Records). The band successfully completed an extensive 4 week European tour, performing alongside Nile, Grave, Krisiun and Ulcerate.

In 2010/2011, the band  writed and recording their third album, which marked a new era for the band. The style is more focused and to the point. The band has finally gotten the massive sound that previous recordings lacked. "FleshCraft" was recorded at Antfarm Studio (The Haunted, Vader, Kataklysm, etc.) and StarStruck Studio and was ultimately mixed and mastered by long-time live sound engineer and producer Jacob Olsen at his JBO Sound Studio (Panzerchrist, Crocell, etc.).

 Morpheus Descends

Morpheus Descends is a death metal band that first formed in Middletown, New York in October 31, 1990 under the name of Morpheus. The lineup at the time consisted of bassist Ken Faggio, drummer Sam Inzerra, vocalist Craig Campbell, guitarist Rob Yench, and Steve Hanson. Later changed it to Morpheus Descends in 1992. The band signed with JL America in 1992 and released their first full-length album, ''Ritual of Infinity'', that same year. They disbanded in 1998. As of January 2013, the band is active once again with the original Morpheus lineup.

Akerbeltz - Tabellae Defixionum (2001)

''Akerbeltz was formed from the beginning by Lilith & Akerbeltz. After a time, Lilith decided not to continue any more as the drummer of this band, and Akerbeltz continued the musical trajectory by him self, playing all the instruments. In October, XXXII anno SATANNA, this recording appears from the depths of an insane mind with rage and metal. This recording is an ode to the creatures of SATAN, and his followers, Nature’s powers, and those whom take pervasion as a way of life, as long as there is a common accord. In this recording they appear various session musicians such as Lilith, Fúnebre, Isnack & Janis. In October XXXIII anno SATANNA, I enter the studio again to record “A Wave Of Darkness”, this time with no session musicians, apart from the inimitable voice of Lilith, that appears in some macabre passages of the record. After a short time, Metal Millenium was interested and they edited this record. I’ve collaborated in the arising of the first Black Metal band that there has been in this country, BEHEADED LAMB… with the recording of a split Cd with the Finish band Azaghal released through Metal Millenium again. After a while I recorded Tabellae Defixionum and Akerhell, the both through Metal Millenium. After Akerhell was recorded I had the opportunity to release finally the demo “Spreading the eternal mayhem” recorded in the ’98 anno bastardi through Blut und Eisen, this time with two bonus track. Shortly after we released with Beheaded Lamb our full length Cd “A Grave To This World”. After the Akerhell was recorded, Lilith formed HARRIDAN with which we recorded in the Redrum Studio the Lugubrious Necromancer demo and the Tales Of The Unholy, this one with the collaboration of Daemonus Von Anthian, former of Winter Frost that also had recorded previously the intro and the outro of the Akerhell; both the demos where released through my own label SATANIK RECORDS in Cdr, after a while Chaos Productions where interested in it and they also released them in tape; also the Australian label Smell The Stench released a limited edition… After this I recorded a split 7ep with the French band Armageddon though Chaos Productions. Shortly after the whole edition was out and we had to release it again through Undercover Records from Germany. In the 2004 Anno Bastardi I released the Never Deny From The Powers Of Sorcery Cd recorded with an 8track recorder through the American label Last Rights, the song from the 7ep was added to this work as we had a lack of recording time for it. In the 2005 Harridan was again releasing both the demos in a new format and this time with a bonus track and with professional cover and remastered through the Spanish label Oniric Records. In the 2006 I played live in Germany in the Under The Black Sun Festival with the Spanish band Amnion as session musicians. In the 2007 a 4way split Lp was released through the Spanish label Oniric records again with two tracks recorded in the Redrum Studio. In the 2010 "Infernuko Erreka" was released through Oniric records, this recording is original from the 2009. In the 2010 I recorded the "Ye elder sign" it's 4 tracks in a split with the american band Satanik Supremacy. This year I also recorded 2 more tracks that will appear in a worldwide split.
